The Director of North America External Web Delivery is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the end-to-end delivery and execution of external-facing websites, portals, AI applications and mobile apps across the North American region. This position plays a critical part in delivering seamless, compliant, and engaging digital experiences that support commercial marketing objectives. The director leads a team of delivery managers and cross-functional partners to ensure timely, high-quality execution of web initiatives, while championing innovation, operational excellence, and stakeholder alignment. Success in this role requires a blend of strategic foresight, technical acumen, and people leadership to manage complex digital ecosystems and deliver measurable business impact. The role will partner with colleagues in other regions to ensure best in class AI tools & technologies are leveraged to ensure efficiency and optimization in architecture, development and project management practices.

This position reports to the Global Delivery & Programs Lead and collaborates closely with regional delivery managers to drive scalable solutions, promote asset reusability, leverage economies of scale, and optimize resource utilization across markets.

Delivery Management & Execution

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of North America web projects, including new site launches, platform migrations, major and minor enhancements, and content updates.
  • Manage cross-functional teams, liaison with agency and vendor partners to ensure timely, high-quality execution of web initiatives.
  • Ensure all web assets meet regulatory, legal, and brand standards, including deployment approvals and audit trails
  • Lead and mentor a team of delivery managers with a strong emphasis on driving quality, reusability and optimization.
  • Leads around 4-7 direct reports and potentially over 100+ contractors, with direct accountability for setting direction, deploying resources, and leading pay, performance, goal setting, and development discussions.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of project managers, developers, and external vendor contractors.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., brand teams, compliance, digital & technology) and external agencies.
  • Act as escalation point for complex delivery issues, balancing business needs with organizational priorities.
  • Mentor and develop team members, promoting continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including C4 (Patient, PDO, GSO), DCPs, CMO, and business and marketing stakeholders—to maximize the impact of web technology platforms, services, and capabilities in delivering innovative digital solutions that elevate customer engagement, brand visibility, and market presence.
  • Oversee the budget and resources across projects, ensuring efficient use of funds and maximization of ROI.
  • Effectively communicates technical aspects of the job to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Oversight & Service Management

  • Oversee the selection of the platform, implementation, and maintenance for web delivery
  • Collaborate with regional delivery teams to ensure scalability, maintainability, and reuse of solutions.
  • Lead the management of services and capabilities in the delivery of innovative and engaging experiences on the web channel.
  • Utilizes various internal AI tools such as Launchpad to ensure a high degree of optimization in the end-to-end web delivery process.
  • Deep understanding of web based and mobile application technologies and concepts and/or business processes as applied to customer marketing.
  • Apply knowledge of Pfizer’s platforms—including Adobe Franklin, Stratus, Web Builder, Edison Lite etc. —to deliver solutions that are reusable, high-quality, and easy to maintain.

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Lead digital transformation initiatives focused on optimizing web development processes, content delivery, and user experience.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for North America web delivery strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial marketing and compliance stakeholders.
  • Champion innovation in web technologies, platforms, and delivery models to enhance engagement and operational efficiency.
  • Keep up with AI trends and collaborate with the business to pilot and apply AI tools throughout the SDLC.

Governance, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all delivery consistently adheres to security, regulatory standards, enterprise & C4 architecture best practices and internal policies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal SOPs, web development standards, and digital accessibility guidelines.
  • Monitor performance metrics and KPIs to assess delivery quality and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead periodic reviews of delivery processes and tools to drive operational excellence.

Educational Background:

  • BA/BS with at least 8 years of experience or MBA/MS with at least 7 years of experience or PhD with at least 5 years of experience

Professional Experience:

  • Progressive track record in a variety of technical leadership roles, ideally inclusive of web, mobile, content and AI technology solutions.
  • Awareness of Pharmaceutical industry a key advantage. Must have product, project and program management experience. Must have proven track record leading high performance teams. Uses knowledge of industry, related industries and general business environment to guide key decision making. Sees knowledge as a department asset and shares freely for the overall benefit of the team.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to assimilate new technologies and concepts as needed. Web platforms, tools and delivery model skills are a must and experience both operating, overseeing and developing new Web solutions is an advantage. Must be able to grasp the right level of technical skills required to make key tactical decisions for the group, including proficiency and an aptitude towards trending AI-based tools & technologies. Ability to learn new technical skills more important than the amount of current knowledge.

Leadership Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing technical teams is essential. Key to the success of this role are Vision, integrity, resilience, adaptability, emotional intelligence, critical decision-making, and effective communications skills. Proven ability to provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members. Understanding the difference between importance and urgency when prioritizing is also a key skill required for this role. Delegate tasks to team members who can perform them more effectively and focus on leading through collaboration. Recognize and leverage each team member’s unique strengths to achieve the best outcomes.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Primarily computer-based work.  This role will be demanding and will require self-regulation of workload and effective time management to be successful.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Travel will be required as part of this role.  Expectations around travel will vary but candidates must be capable of travel within the region, to other regions, and to Pfizer World Headquarters. 

Pfizer Digital is a 7x24x365 function.  This role may require physical or virtual participation on a weekend, holiday, or after normal business hours.  Flexibility is required as needed.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $169,700.00 to $282,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
