The Director Pricing and Commercial Operations is a significant, cross-functional role that collaboratively partners among the US Hospital Business Unit Commercial Team, Account Management, Finance, USMA, PGS, etc. to maximize the performance of the US HBU business and deliver on the organization's strategic goals, objectives, and commitments.  

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

The position is primarily an Individual Contributor that is a highly engaged member of the US Hospital portfolio Triads* (with a Portfolio Director and PGS Demand Planner) and for providing leadership/support to the Specialty Portfolio Lead by delivering holistic summary guidance/perspectives across all of his/her portfolio segments. 

 

*Note: Leadership reserves the right to vary Triad alignments as necessary to meet business needs. 

The Triad will work collaboratively and creatively to maximize the performance of their assigned portfolio, positively impact long-term profitability of US HBU, and meet the needs of customers and patients.  The position may also be responsible to directly or indirectly lead projects / initiatives to develop tools and reports to analyze data in an environment that is conducive to personnel development and achievement.

HOW YOU WILL ACHIEVE IT

The Director Pricing and Commercial Operations responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • analyzing, interpreting, and translating data into actionable insights and recommendations - preparing detailed analyses utilizing various internal/external data sources to understand product specific and competitive market conditions. 

  • developing and recommending pricing/contracting strategies and alternatives for his/her assigned portion of the portfolio; applying deep expertise of the US HBU portfolio and market to support those recommendations with analytics; and monitoring the success (or recommending modification) of those strategies to enable the business to deliver on its commitments - driving our value proposition with customers, growing revenue, capitalizing on market events, and using data to support making the best decisions for Pfizer. 

  • gaining and leveraging understanding of key customers to develop practical and effective pricing recommendations to drive successful customer strategies and responses (i.e. for RPFs, price challenges, etc.) and contracting decisions, while also striving to streamline decision-making to quickly respond to customer requests. 

  • remaining well-informed of emerging external trends and market dynamics to identify signals in the marketplace that could impact our business. 

  • leading the weekly Run-the-Business (RtB) process for his/her assigned portfolio to align on business performance, recommend changes to trends or business conditions so that timely adjustments can be made to commercial plans, and ensure that all data and analytics used in RtB forum are aligned to drive performance. 

  • supporting the Go-To-Market process by leading market analyses and developing pricing/strategy recommendations for new product launches, private label launches, return to markets and line extensions within his/her assigned portion of the portfolio. 

  • leading the tactical processes to recommended annual/mid-year list price increases and strategic list price decreases for his/her assigned portion of the portfolio. 

  • ideating, developing, redesigning, and/or enhancing key analytics tools, reports, and processes with an eye toward driving great effectiveness and efficiency and improving the availability, quality and timeliness of critical information to make / implement high quality business decisions. 

  • being a highly engaged strategic thinker who operates with an entrepreneurial mindset and in a fully compliant manner to summarize and maximize the performance of the Ig and Surgical portfolios and the Specialty Portfolio Lead’s overall business. 

  • providing support to ensure Latest Estimates (LEs) and Operating Plans are strategically aligned, have the desired impact to the business, and maximize return on investment. 

  • leading other strategic / pan portfolio initiatives as necessary with strong collaboration and project management (examples include: Hercules, GEM, LRVF, etc.); supporting the development, analysis, and execution of new customer strategies as necessary (examples include: Vizient NES, Premier ProvideGx, RxRestore, AB SureSupply, etc.) to drive top/bottom line growth for the US HBU business. 

  • championing, demonstrating, and promoting awareness of Pfizer’s values and culture; engaging and inspiring fellow colleagues to generate commitment to US HBU’s business deliverables; driving the creation of the HBU culture to support short and long term success. 

  • collaboratively addressing organizational pain points and feedback to create an environment that is conducive to personnel growth, development, and achievement. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.   

Must-Have

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

  • 8+ years of broad experience in the generic pharmaceutical or related experience/industry with emphasis on strategic and analytical roles in a multi-source product environment. 

  • Strong leadership skills; experience with building and leading highly effective, cross-functional teams in a matrix environment. 

  • Passionate, energetic, detail oriented, organized, driven, and accountable to drive business results. 

  • Takes initiative and works proactively with a positive attitude; self-starter with ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team. 

  • Strong project and process management and leadership skills; willing to learn, engage, tackle, and own unfamiliar projects in a dynamic environment. 

  • Comprehensive understanding of the complex generic market including product, contracting, and pricing strategies; product and customer profitability; and gross-to-net sales accounting. 

  • Excellent analytical, verbal/written communication and presentation skills; ability to pull together sales, market and other financial data from multiple (sometimes disparate) sources and synthesize that information in a manner that allows users to more clearly understand market dynamics, business impact, develop analytics-based strategies, and evaluate the success of those strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple critical and complex projects with a wide ranging group of constituents; proven track record of being able to prioritize and achieve successful outcomes; ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines. 

  • General understanding of basic government pricing programs related to pharmaceutical products (i.e. FSS, PHS 340b) with the ability to understand (and engage subject matter experts) when commercial contracts may materially impact government pricing.

Nice-to-Have

  • MBA with 7+ years of experience; OR PhD with 5+ years of experience.

  • Ability to build and maintain dashboards using Tableau.

  • Experience supporting acute care (hospital) or alternate site (long term care facilities, home healthcare networks, infusion centers, etc.).

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to effectively communicate and successfully achieve all qualification and role requirements whether working in-person within the Lake Forest facility. 

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS  

  • Able to travel to support business needs (< 10-15% travel)
